Significant Trees

A significant tree must satisfy one or more criteria that would then make it eligible to be
considered a significant tree on the UMN Twin Cities campus.
1. Exceptionally large: large diameter trunk, canopy spread, height. Trees that stand out
simply because they are so much larger than most other campus trees, regardless of
species. (Figures 1 and 2)
2. Unique species for the Twin Cities campus. Species that represent a very small
percentage of the campus tree population, or perhaps are the only tree of that species,
