Description: Goldmound spirea is a cultivar of Japanese meadowsweet, which is native to Japan and China. It has yellow-gold foliage and pink flat-topped flower clusters. In autumn the foliage changes to a yellow-orange color. The flowers appear on new wood, so prune in the late winter to early spring if needed. Plant Goldmound spirea in full sun to light shade in as hedges or mass plantings.

Spireas can be susceptible to diseases and insects that inflict members of the rose family. This shrub is tolerant of air pollution, clay soil, erosion, and deer browse. Goldmound spirea may spread by suckers or self-seeding; it is reported as invasive in some eastern states.
