Common Characteristics:
The cornelian-cherry dogwood takes on a multi-stemmed form and is slow growing. It is one of the first trees to bloom in the spring, showing its clusters of star shaped yellow flowers. Its fruit is a dark red drupe that ripens in July and look similar to cherries. They do well in well drained urban conditions. Mature trees have exfoliating and scaly bark. In the fall, the leaves turn into a purpleish red color.
